At some point in your entrepreneurial journey, you will experience burnout. Therefore, you need to learn how to recover from burnout quickly. The reason you need to recover from burnout quickly is so you can start your life again. You also want to be able to bounce back and move on to the next project. But before discussing how to recover from burnout, we must be very clear about what I mean by "burnout". Burnout happens sometimes, but it should n't be the norm Now, ideally, you won't feel burnout in the first place. Nor should you go through it all the time. If it is, there is something wrong and you need to rearrange something in your business. For example, sometimes I have coaching clients come to me because they are experiencing severe burnout that is barely showing. This usually means they need better systems, need to outsource, or need to start charging more money. In very extreme cases, they are told that over-serving is their way of gaining recognition. So they keep burning themselves. That's not what I'm going to discuss in this article. This is a completely separate issue that needs to be addressed as there is still a lot to do. I'm talking about those moments when you're taking on a big project or work is busier than usual. For example, I recently shared that I worked really hard for six weeks to finish six months of podcast and video content ahead of schedule. It's not something I've been doing, it's just been happening for a while.
Or, I know December and January are very busy months for those of us in business and finance. I can already expect to feel a bit burnt out during this time as this is my busy season. Then again, it's nothing like exhausting yourself all the time. The former happens in life, the latter is a health issue that requires a major change in your mindset and business. Now that we've distinguished the two types of burnout, it's time to figure out how to recover from burnout quickly. How to quickly recover from burnout Let's assume you're exhausted because you've taken on a big project or just had a busy season. Like me, I'm currently feeling burnt out because I've worked really hard to industry mailing list a big project for my business. That's when we can talk about recovery. Take pre-emptive measures so you don't get too tired . Hope you didn't burn too hard. Most likely, your mind and body are only temporarily done and you need a break. This is very different from the severe burnout situations I've seen, where people are really sick and can't function properly. To make sure the latter doesn't happen, you need to take some pre-emptive measures. For example, I set myself a two-month deadline to complete a large project based on my normal workload. I know this is the time it takes for me to complete the project. Also, I know I'm going to be exhausted, but once it's all done, I'm not going to go out and settle the bills. I also make sure I get some sleep. In the end, while I couldn't take much off my plate, I did decide to take a step back and stop making content on my website.
I also didn't go to my gym class, but I knew it was a very temporary sacrifice (I only missed a few weeks). You have to be realistic about your schedule, and you also have to realize that you can't do everything during this time. It does not matter. Remember, this is only temporary. The quick way to recover from burnout is to make sure that burnout isn't too bad in the first place. Once you've gotten out of a busy season or completed a big project, it's time for some other form of recovery. Take a day or two off. When I recover from burnout, the first thing I do is take a few days off right away. In my case, I took the weekend off. I'm taking a nap, meeting some friends and family, and relaxing by the pool. During this period, I did not work at all. I didn't even read a book that would help me with my business. Also, I am limiting my time on social media. I'm just relaxing. Granted, this is easier said than done for us Type A entrepreneurs. After all, we love action and being productive. However, it's important to remember that taking breaks when necessary is a way to take action and be more productive. Once your mind and body are rested, you will feel better too. Hopefully, you're better at noticing the symptoms of underlying burnout and starting to listen to your body. You'll also soon start to notice that taking breaks can actually help you get more work done. I know this sounds counterintuitive, but trust me. This is a lesson I have learned. get more sleep Get back to your regular schedule with ease. Another thing I do to recover from burnout is to relax my normal schedule. For example, I won't take on too much this week.
I have some consulting and a VIP coaching client. I don't even want to sell too hard to content marketing clients. In fact, I'm looking for ways to improve my regular schedule so that I have more recovery time going forward. That said, I'm trying to find ways to make sure I'm pursuing the right opportunities. Anything else can wait or I'm getting rid of it. More help is available if you need it. Here's one thing I noticed during my last burnout - I need to hire more people to help me. This is especially true because while I'm working on a big project, my business is experiencing a surge in sales. Which means I'm busier than I expected. The truth is, even after finishing this big project, I realized I was still doing too much myself. So I gave my PR people more time. I also gave my virtual assistant more time and a manager to help with brand partnership agreements. The next stage is to hire a salesperson to help sell my business training courses. This sometimes happens after you experience burnout. If this is the case for you, make sure to provide more help as early as possible. Because sometimes the best way to recover from burnout is to make sure you don't do too much after a busy season. Start exercising again (if you stopped). During the recent busy season, I sacrificed my fitness classes. Frankly, they take up too much time, so I need to stop for a while. I also don't want to exhaust my body by forcing it to do tough workouts during this high-intensity job. I've made this mistake before and don't want to repeat it. Now that this is done, I'm relaxing my normal schedule. It's going to be tough at first, but after that I feel better. final thoughts I want to make it clear that experiencing burnout all the time is not normal or healthy. However, for the unavoidable situations in life, you can use these tips to quickly recover from burnout. Not only will you feel accomplished for completing a big project, but sooner or later you will feel rested.
